Digital twins with Ruben Martinho, Shell
30th July 2019

Oil and Gas IoT Summit 2020 speaker Ruben Martinho recently spoke to us about his Digital Twins presentations, plans for the future and what he hopes to take away from the event.

Firstly, we’d love to know a little more about you. Could you tell us a bit about your current role and responsibilities?

I am currently the Digitalisation Lead for Shell working out of Norway. The role is about identifying the business challenges from the reservoir to market and identifying, building and operationalising digital solutions to close those gaps together with a team of people from the business & Digital experts while using agile methodology.

You are presenting a case study on Digitial Twins  – can you give us a sneak peek into what you’ll be talking about…

Breakdown the misconception of what is a Digital Twin and how it can be used to maximise value through the whole value chain. How it works best (as an ecosystem used by all to break silos) and the pitfall of creating only a 3D model.

What can our attendees expect to take away from your session?

The concept of a Digital Twin as an ecosystem that is used by the end-to-end organisation to improve workflow and get stronger business insights faster.

And, as an attendee what are you hoping to take away from the summit?

Identify best practices that we can replicate in Shell, observe the digital transformation and journey occurring in the industry.

As digitalisation lead at Shell, what are your top 3 priorities for 2020?

– Integrate business processes using data-driven solutions
– Embed digital technologies into the ways of working
– Create new business models

What new technologies or trends do you see impacting the Oil and Gas industry in the next few years?

The use of digital platforms instead of stand-alone solutions “Blockchain”.

Thank you for your time Ruben, really looking forward to seeing you at the summit!
